Memoriam 2021

In Loving Memory
James Philip Mattatall
August 9, 1988 – December 17, 2011

The heaviness and darkness this time of year brings has descended upon us once again. For 10 years we have lived with hurting and healing, as we will for the rest of our lives. Part of the healing is sharing memories of James, celebrating how much he accomplished in his all too short life with us. He had an extraordinary circle of friends, many of whom have named their children in honour of James. His innate sense of decency, compassion, kindness and his sense of humour left an impact on all who met him. Above all, James lived everyday doing his best in school, his career, his friend ships, with family. He noticed what could be done, what should bedone, to make life better every single day. From kind words to total strangers, to extra effort on the job, to the most thoughtful Christmas gifts ever for loved ones, if James saw a chance to make things better, he would act. All who were close to James will know how he encouraged them to be the best they could be too.

“You know as a parent you are a success when you look at your kids and realize they turned out better than you” -Joe Biden

The NSCC Endowment Fund established in James’ memory continues to help students reach their goals in the same program James was enrolled. Read the words of the award recipients on the Memorial Fund Recipient page.
